Independence, Inclusion, Empowerment
The Floating Housing Support Service delivers one-to-one support to people in their own homes. The service aims to promote peoples independence by empowering them in their way of living, to move forward and achieve a good quality of life. We work alongside service users at their own pace to assist them to develop skills to live independently and to feel a valued and important member of society.
This support can range from help with budgeting and daily living tasks like cooking, cleaning, shopping. We help people with making appointments, accessing other support and community resources such as libraries, social activities, work and learning support.

As a service-user the project gives me help in fundamental key areas of my life that enables me to live in my own flat.
The Floating Housing Support Service works with service users in a way that is recovery focused and strengths base, promotes peoples dignity, independence and rights of each service user and to assist service users to access services and activities in the community. Types of support offered include:
- Help to access community resources and develop social contacts.
- Support to gain access to health and social services, by making referrals to other agencies that provide relevant services.
- Support to manage daily living tasks, such as cooking, shopping, cleaning.
- Make phone calls, filling in forms, responding to letters, budgeting.
- Sorting out benefits and work and learning advice.
- Help to access advice if more expert advice needed.
- Support to improve well being, recovery and self esteem.
Funding
The Floating Housing Support Service is funded by:
Brighton and Hove City Council (Supporting People) and Brighton and Hove City Primary Care Trust.
Referral Procedures
Referrals come through the Support Access officer based within the housing options team who is the current pathway for Supporting people referrals and PCT referrals. Once we receive a completed referral form, usually accompanied by a risk assessment, then we hold an initial assessment meeting. The aim is to ensure that the service is appropriate to meet the individuals support needs and to look at any risks associated with delivering the service.

The services is open to residents of Brighton and Hove over the age of 18 who have been affected by mental health difficulties.
Cost of service: Full day (5 hours) – £49.29/ Half Day (2.5 hours) - £27.02
